The Top 10 Movies With Magical Negroes

Share

There was a feature on UGO’s favorite Movie Musicals, and not the traditional Chicago crap, but fun and/or cool stuff like Wonka (old, not new), Idlewild, South Park, The Wiz, etc. Interested, I took a quick peek at the IMDB Best/Worst Musicals and noticed that Kazaam was on the list. Totally caught me off-guard. I never saw this, nor thought of it as a musical.

But even stranger was when I noticed this “plot” keyword: magical negro. I’m not kidding. People went through various movies and tagged them as sporting a “magical negro”, movies like The Legend of Bagger Vance and Song of the South, and pretty much anything by Stephen King or starring Scatman Crothers. There doesn’t seem to be a tag for “Caucasian Serial Killers”… yet.

That’s messed up.  I don’t know Bagger, but why would The Shining have that label if both the kid and the caretaker had the power?  Doesn’t make him any more or less magical than the kid.

I really enjoy playing with you guys.

Also – i have always preferred to refer to them as MYSTICAL Negroes.
