Scott Pilgrim Vs. MDhuff: A Review!

One of the original members of EG shares his thoughts on the Epic of Epic Epicness…

SCOTT PILGRIM is fantastic.  Even if you don’t think it’s good, you’ll agree that it’s fantastic.  Cybergosh brought me to the movie, a friendly gift, convinced me that even if I didn’t like it, it’s worth seeing.  He was right.  It’s infectious, a wild comic/cosmic journey.  I recommend that you go view this wonder of the modern age.  Even if you don’t like it, it’s worth seeing.

I can understand why folks won’t care for it — the breakneck pace, the post-MTV-facebook-generation flash, the utter lack of exposition, the mash-up movie madhouse tone — but it IS a work of art.  It succeeds where Speed Racer crashed and failed.  And it uses the same tools!

You may not like it, but I think you’ll agree that it’s a product of high craft.  Like one of Picasso’s faces that he painted with twelve eyes, or a Shastokovich symphony that uses all the wrong notes but somehow pulls it off, or a loud mass of song from Beck or Neutral Milk Hotel, it hurts the ears yet you want more.

This movie is a vibrating, smoking love letter to love.  It’s a weird piece of fruit from a foreign country.  It’s a chunk of chocolate with bacon in it.  It shouldn’t work, but it DOES. Go and enjoy.  Even if you don’t like the movie… somehow you will still enjoy it.
