I Don’t Really Care About The Beatles: Rock Band
Soon it will be Beatlesmania with the re-mastered catalog being released to CD and a new music video game, The Beatles: Rock Band, hitting stores, and I’m dreading it. It’s not that I hate the Beatles, I just don’t think they’re the greatest band of all time. So the idea of playing a game where I have to play their songs, watch their animated bodies and “live their lives” is not appealing to me in the slightest. Though for the record, I love Ringo Starr but that has everything to do with the awesomeness that is Caveman.
It’s also problematic that The Beatles: Rock Band is only Beatles songs. Half of the fun of Rock Band is mixing up your favorite songs, switching genres and artists so that everybody gets to enjoy their personal songs, but the Beatles isn’t compatible with any of the other Rock Band content. So no, you can’t go from All You Need is Love to Eye of the Tiger, and that’s just lame. This just seems like bad business, as I know some folks who are picking up this game with the intention of playing the other Rock Band songs and they will have to pick up the other games to do so.
So instead, I’m excited more for LEGO: Rock Band which will let me finally belt out “The Final Countdown” and Queen songs, as well as being exportable to Rock Band/2, so I can make one killer set list. The game, not so much, but the songs for sure.
So what do you think? Am I alone in the way I’m looking at The Beatles:Rock Band? Are you going to pick it up?

you are very alone!! not to mention spreading lies to your readers….we are SO getting beatles rock band! : )
Uh oh you’re going to have a bunch of limeys hating on you now, let’s hope they’re not as rabid as MJ fans, though I suspect at least their rants will have better syntax.
Anyway, agreed. Beatles Rock Band = Yawn.
To each their own, I suppose. 🙂
I am a big fan of the Rock Band games in general, but the one part I didn’t enjoy so much was having to play through songs that I didn’t particularly know or care to listen to.
I enjoy nearly all of the songs by the Beatles, and that’s why I am so excited for this release. I am psyched to have a version of the game where every song on the list is one that I’ll enjoy jamming out to. 😉
Oh, I know I’m in the minority here. I’ve got a friend who just got a Xbox 360 mostly so he could play The Beatles: Rock Band… with a minor in Ghostbusters. 😉
Ringo RULES! Beatles, not so much. I’ll take SON OF DRACULA any day over Yellow Submarine.
I’m a “limey” and can say for myself at least, being British doesn’t mean any built in love for the Beatles. I’ve no interest in them, they’re a band from my mums generation (they put me to sleep or in the case if hey jude, grind my teeth).
I agree, they’re not the greatest band. I don’t think there is such a thing.
Ringo always seems a bit of an ejit to me and Paul a money grabbing git.
