Above Number 1

Even though i don’t do BergViews throughout the year these days, there’s no reason why i can’t share my thoughts on the 111 films (79 new) that i ventured out to see throughout 2008. Yes, I know you love Nolan. And that’s alright with me. I’ve learned to be happy for you. Happy that you’re able to get things from his vision that i never, ever, ever will. Anyway, enough about that overrated nonsense – here’s what got ME off last year…

The 42 best, most enjoyable experiences of 2008,
which was quite an fantastically fun year at the movies for me…

Above all else = WALL-E

(Experiencing a film cannot get more satisfying than this for me.
Better every time I see it. Up there with my all-time favorites)

The 3-Way-Tie for first place…

KINGDOM of the CRYSTAL SKULL / STEP BROTHERS / TROPIC THUNDER

(Cannot believe these exist. Better every time. They make me feel the way i like. The way i wish i could feel more often.)

The 4-Way-Tie for 2nd place…

Sex Drive / Hellboy 2: The Golden Army / Role Models / The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

(If i were to buy three copies of indy, step bros & tropic – then i would
buy two of each of these. For no reason other than they deserve my
money THAT much.)

Awesome. So great when great movies enter your eyes, ears and mind.
I will own all of these on DVD and watch over and over…

The Fall
The Tale of Despereoux
Speed Racer
Bedtime Stories
Revolutionary Road
City of Ember

These were great nights at the movies. Really good. And i will most
likely buy these on DVD. But there is less of a desire to watch again
right now…

Gran Torino
High School Musical 3
Ghost Town
Changeling
Hancock
Seven pounds
Synecdoche, NY

Very Cool. Will most likely buy these on DVD, but in less of a rush to
watch them again. That does not make them any less awesome though.
Just a little less repeatability:…

Rambo
Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D
Bangkok Dangerous
Last Chance Harvey
Religulous
Doubt
Frost/Nixon

Now here we have films i really enjoyed while watching them. Very fun
experiences. But, for one reason or another, i’m not compelled to buy
them on dvd right away…

The Spirit
Made of Honor
JCVD
Semi-Pro
The Happening
Valkyrie
U23D

This is the bottom group of the films i “liked” —
each of these had issues and flaws that got in the way of loving them…

Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
In the Name of the King
The Babysitters
Noise
The Promotion
Jumper

And now for the 36 disappointments of 2008…

Glad i saw them, but ultimately not all I had hoped for.
I won’t ever watch these again, but still, not SO bad…

Lost boys: the tribe
zombie strippers
Mummy: tomb of the dragon emperor

And this is where I just start getting stressed out and angry.
Why didn’t I just walk out?!…

Repo
The Dark Knight
Run Fatboy Run
Cassandra’s Dream

Be kind, rewind

And finally, the films I just could not deal with. These caused me
quite a bit of stress and heartburn. Walked.
