Amazon is in the final stages of negotiation to assign the James Bond franchise to producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman. This represents a significant move in the tech-retailing scene as Amazon seeks to take over creative control of the iconic British spy franchise. Pascal and Heyman both bring unique expertise to the role; Pascal’s success includes Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films, and Heyman is globally recognized for the Harry Potter franchise. The structure of this Bond entity remains unknown, but experts state that Pascal could potentially be the lead producer-executive.

“Spider-Man” and “Harry Potter” Producers May Come Aboard Amazon’s “James Bond”

– Amazon is reportedly in final talks to assign the James Bond franchise to former studio executive Amy Pascal and Harry Potter producer David Heyman.
The discussions mark Amazon’s efforts to take over creative control of the Bond franchise from current producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, whose family has helmed the series for decades.
– Despite purchasing MGM/UA and its library, which includes the Bond films, Amazon still had to negotiate control from Broccoli and Wilson’s company Eon; the nature of the proposed Bond organization under Amazon remains unclear.

Amy Pascal, former studio head, and David Heyman, producer of the Harry Potter series, are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Amazon. If agreed upon, they will manage the esteemed James Bond franchise. The move comes as Amazon works towards finalizing a deal to take creative reins from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. For decades, the Bond films have been produced by the pair’s family.

Bond was perhaps the primary motivation behind Amazon’s acquisition of MGM/UA and its film collection  in 2021. Still, Broccoli and Wilson have maintained considerable control over the franchise through their company, Eon Productions.

It remains uncertain how far along the negotiations are, yet sources claim progress is substantial. Amy Pascal could be the central producer-executive, but the framework of the new Bond body remains undefined.

Jennifer Salke, Amazon Studios’s senior VP, Amazon Studios head, and Courtenay Valenti, head of film and streaming, have all participated in procuring the new management.

Both Pascal and Heyman bring unique experiences into the James Bond universe.

Amy Pascal has a profitable history in the film industry, formerly serving as co-chairperson for Sony Pictures Entertainment and supervising their TV division. Despite the Sony hack scandal that led to her departure, Pascal has succeeded as an independent producer. Pascal’s body of work includes the Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland, animated Into the Spider-Verse movies, and critically-acclaimed films like Little Women and Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, produced by Amazon MGM.

David Heyman lends a UK perspective to the production process, promoting the British origin of the Bond character. Heyman is most renowned for managing the Harry Potter film franchise, producing eight box office hits. Despite the less successful Fantastic Beasts series in the post-Potter era, Heyman has had other notable productions such as the much-loved Paddington series and Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
