“Stranger Things” Star Matthew Modine Joins Godzilla-King Kong Monsterverse Franchise
Actor Matthew Modine, known for his role in Netflix series Stranger Things, is set to join the cast of the latest installment in the Godzilla-King Kong film franchise, part of Legendary’s “Monsterverse”. Directed by Grant Sputore, the movie will once again focus on epic battles between enormous monsters and humans.

Matthew Modine, known for his role in Netflix’s Stranger Things, is the most recent addition to the cast of Legendary’s ongoing Godzilla-King Kong movie franchise, otherwise referred to as the Monsterverse. Having experienced renewed fame due to his part in the hit show, Modine has successfully secured a role in Legendary’s monster movie sequel, which will be directed by Grant Sputore of I Am Mother fame.
The film will once more bring colossal creatures to the screen, presenting a spectacle of monstrous giants and the insignificant humans caught in the middle. While exact plot details are yet to be unveiled, the script, penned by David Callaham, is rumored to introduce a set of new human characters. These characters will accompany the iconic Titans, Godzilla and Kong as they engage with a catastrophic, apocalyptic threat that endangers society.
The cast list already features actors who are newcomers to the franchise which include Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, and Delroy Lindo. Dan Stevens will return, reprising his unique role as Trapper, a monster veterinarian and dentist. It’s predicted that Modine will portray the character of a military general in the new installment.
Filming is scheduled to kick-off in April on location in Australia. Modine’s past performance includes his portrayal of morally ambiguous character Dr. Brenner, also referred to as “Papa”, the scientist with malevolent inclinations in Stranger Things. He made an appearance in the eighties films Full Metal Jacket and Married to the Mob and had a significant part in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-honoured drama Oppenheimer.
Modine is also recognized for his role in the drama The Martini Shot, and is currently featured on Netflix series Zero Day, playing opposite Robert De Niro. His future work includes roles in Amazon Original Series The Better Sister, alongside Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel, and The Protector with Milla Jovovich.
