Former “Call of Duty” Developers Team Up with Filmmakers to Create “Kickboxer” Video Game

Former Call of Duty developers, Force Multiplier Studios, are teaming up with the filmmakers behind the Kickboxer film franchise to create the first-ever Kickboxer video game. The game will combine the narrative of Kickboxer with intense martial arts action and will feature iconic characters and locations from the films. While it remains unclear if Jean-Claude Van Damme will star in the game, Force Multiplier Studios expressed excitement about the licenses they have for characters and likenesses from the Kickboxer universe. Former developers of the popular game franchise Call of Duty have joined forces with filmmakers Dimitri Logothetis and Rob Hickman to create the very first video game based on the Kickboxer martial arts film series. Los Angeles-based Force Multiplier Studios is leading the development of the Kickboxer video game.

The Kickboxer film series, which began in 1989 with Jean-Claude Van Damme in the lead role, gained immense popularity and spawned multiple sequels. Van Damme did not return for the second film, instead opting for another project called Double Impact. However, he did make a comeback in the 2016 reboot Kickboxer: Vengeance, alongside Dave Bautista, and its 2018 sequel, Kickboxer: Retaliation. The third installment of the reboot trilogy, Kickboxer: Armageddon, is set to start filming this spring.

While details on the Kickboxer video game are scarce, it is reported to be in early development. According to Force Multiplier Studios, the game will combine the captivating storyline of Kickboxer with exhilarating martial arts action, delivering a thrilling and fast-paced fighting experience. The game will feature iconic characters and locations from the franchise, which originally starred Jean-Claude Van Damme.

When asked about Van Damme’s involvement in the video game, Force Multiplier Studios remained evasive. Brent Friedman, Chief Creative Officer at the studio, expressed their excitement for the Kickboxer universe and the characters they have the license to use. More updates are expected to be shared later this year.

Force Multiplier Studios is a newly established development studio consisting of industry veterans Jeremy Breslau, Brent Friedman, and Charnjit Bansi. These individuals have previously worked on acclaimed game titles such as Call of Duty, Borderlands, and Halo, as well as Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat.

Dimitri Logothetis, the writer and director of Kickboxer: Armageddon, expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Force Multiplier Studios. He believes that the game will pay tribute to the original film while introducing innovative gameplay elements.

Currently, Force Multiplier Studios’ first game release is a combat shooter called Karnivus: Rooftop Rumble, which was launched within the popular game Fortnite. However, the studio sees the Kickboxer video game as a major step forward for the team. The CEO of Force Multiplier Studios, Jeremy Breslau, stated that the studio’s passion lies in innovation. They intend to elevate the fighting genre by creating a dynamic brawler that will empower players to become the ultimate kickboxers. The game will take players to exotic locations and introduce new combat mechanics, redefining the martial arts gaming experience.

No screenshots or trailers for the Kickboxer video game have been released yet, but fans can expect more information later this year.
