Paramount Pictures Unveils Cast for Children of Blood and Bone Film Adaptation, Set to Release January 2027

Paramount Pictures has finalized the cast for the film adaptation of the YA novel Children of Blood and Bone, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The movie is set to release on January 15, 2027 and stars Thuso Mbedu as Zelie, Amandla Stenberg as Amari, Damson Idris as Inan, and Tosin Cole as Tzain. The cast also includes Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Lashana Lynch, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, with Regina King, Diaana Babnicova, and Bukky Bakray in negotiations for roles. The film is based on the best-selling book by Tomi Adeyemi and revolves around a young woman and her brother seeking to reclaim stolen magic in an African fantasy kingdom. Filming will take place in South Africa, with additional casting calls in Nigeria. Producers include Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Karen Rosenfelt, and Matt Jackson.

The film is set to release on January 15, 2027. The cast also includes Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Lashana Lynch, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, with Regina King, Diaana Babnicova, and Bukky Bakray in negotiations for roles. The movie is based on Tomi Adeyemi’s best-selling book and centers around a young woman and her brother’s quest to reclaim their stolen magic in an African fantasy kingdom. The film will be filmed in South Africa, and the production team includes Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Karen Rosenfelt, and Matt Jackson as producers.

Thuso Mbedu, known for her role in The Woman King, will portray the lead character Zelie. Amandla Stenberg, who gained recognition for her performance in The Hate U Give, will play the character of Amari. Damson Idris, from the hit TV series Snowfall, joins the cast as Inan, while Tosin Cole, known for his work in Supacell, takes on the role of Tzain.

The cast is rounded out by the inclusion of Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Lashana Lynch, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Additionally, negotiations are underway with Regina King, Diaana Babnicova, and Bukky Bakray for additional roles in the film.

Based on the bestselling book by Tomi Adeyemi, Children of Blood and Bone tells the story of a young woman named Zelie and her brother Tzain, living in an African fantasy kingdom. They embark on a quest to reclaim the stolen magic of their people, which was forcefully taken by a tyrannical king portrayed by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Paramount Pictures president and CEO Brian Robbins, along with motion picture group presidents Daria Cercek and Mike Ireland, acquired the rights to the book trilogy in a highly contested bidding war. The film is set to be filmed on location in South Africa, with an opening casting call in Nigeria to find actors for additional roles.

The producers of the film include Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment, Karen Rosenfelt of Sunswept Entertainment, and Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures. The team is excited to bring Tomi Adeyemi’s captivating world of Orisha to life on the big screen.
