Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has acquired distribution rights for the upcoming film Kickboxer: Armageddon, the latest installment in the rebooted Kickboxer franchise. Directed by Dimitri Logothetis and co-written with Jim McGrath, shooting for the film will begin this spring. Mark Dacascos will be joining the cast alongside Alain Moussi and Scott Adkins. The film follows Kurt Sloane (played by Moussi) as he seeks revenge for his wife’s murder, encountering a sadistic cult led by martial arts master Cesare (played by Adkins) in the process. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has picked up the distribution rights for the upcoming installment of the Kickboxer franchise, titled Kickboxer: Armageddon, in the United States and Canada. The martial arts film series, which originally started in 1989 with Jean-Claude Van Damme starring as Kurt Sloane in Kickboxer, has developed a devoted cult following over the years.

Directed by Dimitri Logothetis, who also co-wrote the script alongside Jim McGrath, Kickboxer: Armageddon is scheduled to start filming this spring. Logothetis, Rob Hickman, and Joel Shapiro are set to produce the film. While an official release date has not been announced yet, fans can expect the movie to hit the screens soon.

Mark Dacascos has been added to the cast of Kickboxer: Armageddon, joining previously announced stars Alain Moussi and Scott Adkins, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Moussi has taken over the lead role of Kurt Sloane in the rebooted Kickboxer trilogy, following Van Damme’s portrayal in the first film. Van Damme has appeared in the two previous installments as Master Durand.

Kickboxer: Armageddon follows Kurt Sloane (Moussi) as he embarks on a mission to find the killers of his wife. Immersed in the brutal world of Thai underground fighting, Kurt encounters Cesare (Adkins), a martial arts master who leads a sadistic cult. As Kurt finds himself in the toughest fight of his life, his determination to avenge his wife’s death reaches new heights.

Dimitri Logothetis has been instrumental in reviving the Kickboxer franchise. After Van Damme’s original film, the franchise released four sequels in the 1990s. However, it was not until Logothetis’s involvement that the series was rebooted with Kickboxer: Vengeance in 2016, followed by Kickboxer: Retaliation in 2018, both of which he directed, co-wrote, and produced. Logothetis’s directorial credits also include the film Gunner, featuring Luke Hemsworth and Morgan Freeman, which Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released last year.

In a 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Van Damme reflected on the enduring legacy of the Kickboxer franchise. He attributed its timeless appeal to sincerity, saying, “A lot of people tell me that those movies haven’t aged. Maybe I know why. It’s about sincerity. If you’re sincere in your role and believe in your part, that—plus all the martial arts—helps the audience ignore the poor background.”
