– The game is described as vibrant, colorful, lo-fi, and cozy, targeting a younger audience, and features a percentage-based damage system similar to Smash Bros, with three class types and various modes.

Reports suggest that Bungie, the creators of Destiny, had been working on a team-based MOBA game heavily influenced by Nintendo’s Smash Bros series. However, the project, codenamed Gummy Bears, has now been transferred to a newly established PlayStation studio, with 40 Bungie developers remaining to continue its development.

According to The Game Post, an anonymous source reveals that the Sony studio taking over the project was formed last year during a significant restructuring by Bungie, who are owned by Sony. The new studio, comprised of 155 individuals, was initially working on an untitled action game based in a science-fantasy universe.

Described as “vibrant,” “colourful,” “lo-fi,” and “cosy,” the Gummy Bear project is specifically designed for a younger audience. Sources indicate that it has been in development for three years and incorporates a percentage-based damage system reminiscent of Smash Bros, where blows gradually push characters further away rather than using traditional health bars.

The game is said to feature three class types: support, attack, and defense, and will offer various game modes. Additionally, players will have the option to socialize with others between matches, suggesting the inclusion of a hub environment. However, this aspect may not be appreciated by those who prefer less social interaction.

Bungie is renowned for its previous projects, including the popular Destiny series and the revival of Marathon, an older cousin of DOOM that transformed into a Player-vs-Player extraction shooter. The reception to the revived Marathon, announced almost two years ago, remains uncertain, with differing opinions among gaming journalists.

While some, like Ollie, our enthusiastic guides editor, are optimistic about Bungie’s potential to create a leading extraction shooter, others, like the somewhat cynical writer of this article, are more inclined to play a Bungie-developed homage to Smash Bros. After all, Bungie is the studio responsible for introducing iconic weapons like the Gravity Hammer.
