Disney Cruise Line to Launch Four New Ships, Including Fifth Wish-class Vessel

Commissioning a total of four new vessels, Disney is ready to take family vacations to the next level. While we’ve been eagerly awaiting this news since the D23 event, the curtain has finally been lifted to reveal the magical surprises in store. So get ready to set sail in 2027 on the fifth Wish-class ship, followed by three more ships of a mysterious, yet-to-be-named class. It’s safe to say that Disney has no plans of slowing down their seafaring adventures anytime soon.

Disney Cruise Line to Launch Four New Ships, Including Fifth Wish-class Vessel

– Disney Cruise Line is commissioning a new class of cruise ships, with four new ships to be launched by 2031.
– One of the new ships will be a fifth Wish-class ship, while the other three will belong to a yet-to-be-named class weighing about 100,000 GT.

Disney Cruise Line is set to expand its fleet with a new class of cruise ships, scheduled to start sailing in 2029, according to industry sources. This announcement comes after Disney revealed at the D23 event in Anaheim last year that it would commission four new ships for its cruise line, bringing the fleet size to 13 by 2031. However, until now, the specifics of these new ships were unknown.

Currently, Disney’s fleet consists of six ships: the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, launched in 1998 and 1999 respectively, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, launched in 2011 and 2012 respectively, and the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, launched in 2022 and last month respectively.

Among the upcoming ships, Disney Destiny, belonging to the Wish-class, is scheduled for a November launch, followed by the Global-class Disney Adventure in December. In addition to Disney’s plans, Oriental Land Co. has commissioned a Wish-class ship to begin sailing in Japan in 2029.

According to a report by Seatrade Cruise News, one of the four newly announced ships will also be a Wish-class ship, set to sail in 2027. Following this, there will be three ships of a different and unnamed class. These ships will weigh approximately 100,000 GT, larger than the original Disney Magic and Wonder, but smaller than the Dream- and Wish-class ships. It is reported that these ships will be launched successively, one per year, beginning in 2029.

The addition of a fourth Wish-class ship in the United States could potentially enable Disney to increase its capacity for the Caribbean market, with the possibility of sailing two Wish-class ships from Port Canaveral and Port Everglades. The fifth Wish-class ship would be dedicated to serving Japan, while the Disney Adventure would set sail exclusively from Singapore for a period of five years, starting in December.

With this lineup, Disney Cruise Line’s seven smaller ships would cover other regions worldwide. This configuration opens up the possibility of establishing a permanent presence in Southern California, while still offering seasonal service to Alaska, as well as cruises from ports such as New York to Canada, Galveston and New Orleans, Northern Europe and the Caribbean, and Australia and the South Pacific.
