The highly anticipated sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, will officially hit theaters on June 4, 2027. Announced at CinemaCon, this marks four years after the franchise’s record-setting film, Across the Spider-Verse. The directors have shared the first footage of the film and the audience can expect new directions and a fresh take from their favorite Spidey, Miles Morales.

On Monday, at CinemaCon, the creators behind Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse announced their much-anticipated new release date: June 4, 2027. This follows the considerable success of the the franchise’s previous film, Across the Spider-Verse, which set records by releasing four years earlier.

The event also showcased the initial footage from the upcoming film, providing a sneak-peek to the audience. The footage was voiced by Miles Morales, who stated, “Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go, I am going to do my own thing.”

The new sequel is the result of the collaborative efforts of directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and David Callaham getting the credit for the script. The release date of the film has been the subject of speculation ever since it was taken off the release calendar in 2023. The film was initially slated for release on March 29, 2024, just nine months after the release of Across the Spider-Verse.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the creators of the Spider-Verse series known for their attention to detail, are both writers and producers. Their strive for perfection and continuous efforts to innovate with every film is well-illustrated by the success of the first Spider-Verse film, Into the Spider-Verse (2018). The film was a hit for its genre-defying content, resulting in it winning the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Its successor, Across the Spider-Verse, which was released in June 2023, was also a hit.

Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, will once again take on the role of Brooklyn’s teenage Spider-Man in the new film. Additionally, Hailee Steinfeld will return to voice Spider-Gwen, the hero from a different universe. Steinfeld confirmed that she had not begun her voice work for the sequel during the release of Across the Spider-Verse.
