A comedy remake of Anaconda has made its debut at CinemaCon.

Paul Rudd and Jack Black made a video appearance to commence Sony film executive Tom Rothman’s introduction at the beginning of the studio’s demonstration at the Las Vegas occasion on Monday. Both Rudd and Black are featured in director Tom Gormican’s reinterpretation of Sony’s 1997 snake-themed horror film.

“It seems appropriate to discuss our project, since, in essence, this is a significant advertising opportunity,” Rudd joked. The duo revealed they were currently in Australia shooting the film, with Black expressing a wish to be there.

“Prepare yourselves to encounter the true star attraction of the movie: the anaconda itself,” Rudd added, provoking laughter from both as they insinuated that a sizable snake had escaped.

As Rothman made his entrance to the stage, “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot played — a song recognized for a lyrical reference to an entirely different kind of anaconda.

Anaconda, scheduled for release on Dec. 25, is directed by Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) and he co-scripted with Kevin Etten. Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are the producers for Fully Formed.

In December, a video featuring Rudd and Black gave a sneak peek of their new adventure. “Expect a huge snake that’s going to be epic,” Black announced. The Hollywood Reporter had previously disclosed in August that the project was in the works.

The 1997 Anaconda, directed by Luis Llosa, featured a star-studded cast including Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight. The original film, which led to several sequels, revolved around a National Geographic film crew on a quest for the largest and most lethal snake on earth.

Rudd, who led the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire last year, is currently sharing screen space with Jenna Ortega in A24’s Death of a Unicorn. Black lent his voice to the 2024 releases of Kung Fu Panda 4 and Borderlands, and his video game adaptation, A Minecraft Movie, premieres this weekend.
