– Colin Farrell, known for his portrayal of The Penguin in the DC universe, is in talks to star in Sgt. Rock, a World War Two movie by Luca Guadagnino.
– Daniel Craig was originally considered for the role, however, no formal offer was made and he has now turned his attention to another project.
– The character of Sgt. Rock, who leads a combat unit against Nazi forces, was first introduced in DC Comics in 1959.
– Farrell has received considerable awards and widespread praise for his role as The Penguin and is likely to reprise his role in the upcoming Batman sequel.

Colin Farrell, celebrated for his portrayal of the infamous DC antagonist The Penguin, is currently in negotiations for a return trip to the DC universe with the World War II action film, Sgt. Rock. The anticipated movie, set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino, will be produced by DC Studios.

Following the departure of Daniel Craig from the project, Farrell is being considered for the lead role. Craig is reportedly considering a role in Greta Gerwig and Netflix’s adaptation of Narnia. Despite Craig’s involvement in early discussions surrounding the Sgt. Rock film, DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed no offer was ever extended to him. They also committed to starting the shoot this summer, contingent upon finding the ideal actor for the role.

This development sets Sgt. Rock on course for a summer start-date at DC Studios’ production base in the UK. Farrell, if contracted, is expected to take on the role of the hardened leader of Easy Company, a combat unit opposing the Nazi regime in Europe.

Sgt. Rock was a character co-created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, initially introduced to audiences via comic books in 1959. The comic was one of DC’s most enduring publications. Past discussions about bringing the character to the silver screen saw names like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis linked with the role.

Justin Kuritzkes, the screenwriter behind Guadagnino’s Challengers and Queer, is penning the script for Sgt. Rock.

Farrell received extensive critical and popular praise for depicting Penguin as a merciless underworld kingpin in The Batman, a gripping interpretation of Batman’s narrative by Matt Reeves. His stellar performance led to a reprisal of the character in The Penguin, an HBO offshoot that was met with tremendous success and numerous accolades, including a SAG Award, Golden Globe Award, Critics Choice Award, and Saturn Award.

It’s highly probable that Farrell, represented by CAA, will reprise his role in the follow-up to Reeves’s The Batman, predicted to start filming by the end of this year under DC Studios.

If Farrell signs on for Sgt. Rock, it demonstrates that Gunn and Safran are open to reusing actors from recent DC offerings for their new projects. Jason Momoa, for instance, portrayed Aquaman as recently as 2023 and will soon be seen as anti-hero Lobo in Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow. The film, currently in production in the UK, is set for a June 2026 release.
