Jason Ritter has been enlisted for a recurring part in HBO’s Lanterns, a Green Lantern-themed series. Ritter is set to play Billy Macon, a charming manipulator who leverages his family’s reputation for his own advantage. In this DC adaptation, Billy is the dutiful son of the ruthless and conspiracy-minded character, William Macon, played by Garret Dillahunt. This marks yet another cast expansion for the show, which is currently in production under Warner Bros. TV and DC Studios.

HBO’s Lanterns has confirmed the latest addition to its roster of actors, securing Jason Ritter for a part-time role.

Ritter has been assigned the character of Billy Macon in the series, which stems from DC’s Green Lantern. Sketched as a sleek magnet whose actions are mainly dictated by his father’s commands, Billy utilizes the prestige of his lineage to his advantage. Rooted in his petty town arrogance, he has everything on the line.

The role of Billy’s father, William Macon, is being portrayed by Garret Dillahunt. William Macon is plotted as a self-satisfied, paranoid and furiously aspiring individual who covers his sinister side under his captivating exterior.

Other prominent characters in Lanterns are played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, including the members of the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. These celestial law enforcement officers find themselves embroiled in an ominous, Earth-born enigma as they look into a homicide in the heart of America. Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen complete the ensemble.

Lanterns, a collaborative work of Warner Bros. TV and DC Studios, commenced shooting in the concluding segment of February. Chris Mundy is performing double duty as a series co-creator and the showrunner, penning the eight-episode season with the help of co-creators, Damon Lindelof and the writer of Tom King comics who won the Eisner Award. The executive production is handled by James Gunn and Peter Safran, both the chiefs of DC Studios, Ron Schmidt and James Hawes. Hawes has the reins for directing the initial two episodes of the series. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov are also on board to lead the direction.

Ritter is currently featuring alongside Kathy Bates in CBS’ Matlock, in addition to gracing a special appearance in Peacock’s Poker Face’s upcoming season. His notable performances span across Netflix’s Raising Dion, Hulu’s mini-series Candy and voice overs for Krapopolis and Gen V. He is under the representation of The Burstein Company and Gersh.
