– Matthew Lillard, who played Stuart “Stu” Macher in the original Scream film, will be returning for Scream 7 alongside Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox.
– It is unclear whether Lillard will reprise his role or play a different character in the upcoming film.
– Scream 7 has experienced several setbacks, including the firing of a cast member and the departure of its original director, but Kevin Williamson has taken over as director.

Matthew Lillard, known for his role as the antagonist Stuart “Stu” Macher in the original 1996 Scream film, is making a comeback in Scream 7, according to Deadline. Fans of the franchise are left wondering how Lillard’s character can return, considering the events of the first movie. Will he reprise his role as Stu, or will he portray a different character? This remains a mystery for now, but Lillard did hint at his involvement with the movie in an Instagram post.

The Scream reunion is slowly coming together, as Lillard joins Neve Campbell, who will be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott, and Courteney Cox in Scream 7. The cast also includes Scott Foley, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. This news is significant for a movie that faced uncertainty during its development. Back in November 2023, Melissa Barrera was removed from the film after a series of controversial social media posts about the conflict in Gaza. Shortly after, it was revealed that Jenna Ortega would not be returning for Scream 7, leaving the Carpenter sisters, who have been central to the series since 2022’s Scream, unattached.

Furthermore, director Christopher Landon left the project in December 2023, describing it as a “dream job that turned into a nightmare.” In response, Kevin Williamson, the writer of the original Scream movie, as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4, took over as the new director. The directing duo of Radio Silence, known for their work on Scream and Scream 6, also announced in August 2023 that they would not be returning for Scream 7. However, they remain involved as executive producers. Guy Busick, who co-wrote the previous two films in the series, will be returning to write the screenplay.

Despite the setbacks, Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026. Fans of the franchise can look forward to seeing Matthew Lillard back in action alongside a stellar cast. As the details surrounding his character and the plot remain undisclosed, the anticipation for the movie continues to build. It’s refreshing to see the revival of a beloved horror franchise, even after facing challenges along the way.
