Director Rob Jabbaz has been chosen to helm The Crossed movie, a feature adaptation of the popular comic book set in a pandemic-ridden world. The film, written by Garth Ennis, creator of The Boys and Preacher, revolves around a disease that leaves its victims with a cross-shaped rash on their faces.

Jabbaz is no stranger to portraying horrific pandemics on screen, as he previously directed the Taiwanese horror film The Sadness. This film explored a virus that transformed people into violent beings, providing a unique twist on the traditional zombie narrative. With positive reviews and recognition at the Austin genre-centric festival, Fantastic Fest, The Sadness showcased Jabbaz’s talent for crafting unsettling tales.

In The Crossed, those infected by the disease give in to their worst impulses, becoming homicidal maniacs with their intellects intact. Unlike typical zombie apocalypses, this story presents a world where humans, rather than zombies, serve as the antagonists. Ennis initially published ten issues of the comic book between 2008 and 2010, which launched a franchise spanning over 200 issues. Notable writers and artists, such as Alan Moore from Watchmen, also contributed to the series.

Six Studios is producing the film, aiming to create a faithful adaptation of Ennis’s original comic book. The studio intends to incorporate a few surprises while staying true to the source material. Jabbaz expressed his excitement about working with Ennis and Six Studios, emphasizing their dedication to delivering an authentic on-screen rendition of Crossed. He hopes that audiences are ready for the thrilling experience that awaits them.

The production team includes producers Carl Choi from Six Studios, Benjamin Hung from Retro Entertainment, and Ken Levin from Nightsky Productions. Hung and Levin collaborated with Ennis to develop the project before approaching Six Studios with the concept. The executive producers include Jeff Huang from Six Studios, Ennis himself, Carl Amari, and Bill Patterson.

The Crossed film is scheduled to begin filming in March. David Guglielmo will handle the casting, while Lillian Campbell will serve as the line producer, overseeing the production’s day-to-day operations.

Ennis expressed his excitement for the project, stating that the year 2025 serves as an appropriate time to bring Crossed to the big screen considering the world’s current state. He jokingly mentioned that audiences have been eagerly awaiting this movie, wishing everyone a Happy New Year as he looks forward to the film’s release.
