Share

Director/co-writer Fede Álvarez may be making some noise with the success of Alien: Romulus, as rumors suggest a sequel is in development. The most intriguing rumor is the potential return of Sigourney Weaver’s iconic character, Ellen Ripley, using digital de-aging technology. While some fans are excited about the possibility, others have concerns about how this would be executed. Regardless, the idea of seeing Ripley back in action battling Xenomorphs is enticing. There is also speculation that Ellen’s return could set up a crossover with Amanda Ripley from Alien: Isolation. Until more information is available, fans will have to keep an open mind.

“Alien: Romulus 2” Rumors: Sigourney Weaver Returning as Ellen Ripley?

– “Alien: Romulus 2” may bring back Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley through digital de-aging.
– It is uncertain how much CGI de-aging will be used and if Weaver will physically act as Ripley.
– The potential return of Ripley could set up a crossover with Amanda Ripley from “Alien: Isolation.”

When your picture becomes a hit, your success reverberates throughout the industry. That’s exactly what’s happening for director/co-writer Fede Álvarez with the success of “Alien: Romulus” resonating in the 2025 movie schedule. With a sequel in the works, there’s a rumor circulating about Sigourney Weaver’s involvement in “Romulus 2.”

I’m thrilled at the prospect of the iconic Alien movie timeline being extended with the return of Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. However, the potential details of how she will be included leave me uncertain. According to unnamed sources reported by DanielRPK (via ComicBook.com), director Ridley Scott, who oversees the further expansion of the Alien universe, may be incorporating digital de-aging to bring back Ellen Ripley.

While I would love to see Sigourney Weaver, who has starred in some of the best sci-fi movies of all time, battle Xenomorphs once again, I have reservations about her return in this manner. The extent of the CGI de-aging required raises questions about the authenticity of her performance. Additionally, there may be scheduling conflicts with her involvement in the Avatar sequels.

On the other hand, if Sigourney Weaver does reprise her role as Ellen Ripley, it could potentially set up an exciting crossover. Director Fede Álvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues have drawn inspiration from Alien: Isolation, so it’s possible that we might see Amanda Ripley reunited with her mother while joining forces with Rain for future adventures.

Until we have more information, it’s best to keep an open mind. In the meantime, “Alien: Romulus” can be streamed on Hulu, and the FX original series “Alien: Earth” will be premiering this summer on the same platform. Let’s wait and see what unfolds in the sequels to both “Alien: Romulus” and “Alien: Isolation.”
