Here, he discovers a mysterious briefcase that is sought after by a Silurian and a corporation named Villengard.

Throughout the episode, the Doctor forms a bond with a woman named Joy, who later becomes possessed by the star seed inside the briefcase. The Doctor and Joy work together to prevent the corporation from using the star seed as an energy source that could potentially harm the Earth. However, their efforts lead to Joy absorbing the star seed and ascending into space, becoming a shining star.

Meanwhile, the Doctor forms a close friendship with Anita, the manager of the Time Hotel, during his time working there for a year. The Doctor eventually leaves the hotel but fondly remembers the time he spent with Anita. The episode concludes with a representative from the Time Hotel offering Anita a job and a card from the Doctor.

Despite the promising premise, the episode falls short in several areas. The locked door mystery in the hotel is underwhelming and unoriginal. Moreover, the character development is uneven, with Anita receiving more attention than Joy, the supposed co-star of the episode. This lack of depth hinders the emotional impact of the story.

Additionally, the episode introduces several plot holes and implausible elements, such as Joy’s ability to fly into space after absorbing the star seed. These inconsistencies weaken the overall narrative and detract from the viewer’s engagement.

While the episode attempts to incorporate religious elements by revealing that Joy becomes the star shining over Bethlehem, it lacks meaningful execution. The connection between the Doctor’s experience and the birth of Christ feels forced and fails to evoke the intended emotions.
