Survival of the Dead Makes Me Want To Die

Survival of the Dead

What the heck happened to George Romero? I mean, I love love LOVED Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and even have a special place in my heart for Land of the Dead. But then along came Diary of the Dead, and gone went my respect. Yes, it had some very clever zombie kills in it, thanks to modern technology and on-set ingenuity, but as a movie, it never came together. Poorly acted and even more amateurly shot (per the handicam style), it was the first zombie flick I’ve actually hated… and I’ve seen Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave.

Now Romero is back with Survival of the Dead, a tale similar to Day of the Dead where soldiers and citizens unite on an island and try to figure out what to do next. Of course, tensions arise when two different ideologies present themselves, including one where people feel that they can actually cure those that are undead. I’m REALLY interested to see how he even tries to pull off that. I was onboard until I saw this trailer and realized that C. Thomas Howell is a better director these days:

Romero will always have my respect for creating a franchise. I just wish he’d pass the torch before it’s completely sullied. Of course, I may be wrong. The Hollywood Reporter loved it. Maybe I’ll just stick to Left 4 Dead and look forward to Zombieland.
