Fire Destroys King Kong and the BTTF Town Square!!

Share

Oh no, I’m hoping this MTV news story is an overstatement, but supposedly there was a three-alarm fire at the Universal Pictures lot, destroying the King Kong attraction (which I’m less sad about since it kinda stinks, and I just rode it a month ago), but also taking out tape libraries and sets that include, gasp, the town square from Back to the Future! Oh noes!

That is so suckish!  BUT – didnt the BTTF courthouse sqaure burn down a while back?  The one that burned yesterday was a rebuild of the original.  So i suppose they will rebuild again for the tour?  King Kong, RIP!  He will be missed.  I say – bring back the old Vintage battlestar tunnel with live cylons!!

I was totally ignorant of this yesterday – woke up to the news when my mom called me.  Yes, bergy – most people aren’t saying so, but the original clock tower DID burn down back in the early 90s.  Since then tour guides have never mentioned it.  Over time, they stopped mentioning BTTF at all, and the clock face was removed long ago – I think they propped it up next to the gargoyles in a little photo op section at the end of the tour.  Supposedly the Kong ride was damaged (Good, they should rebuild it entirely – so dated and lame) as well.

They should turn Kong into a Cloverfield ride.  That’d be awesome!
