I can’t be the first person to notice this…
…recently I was watching Return of the Jedi with my 3 year old niece (“Look, robots!”), and during the scene where Leia takes off her bounty hunter disguise, I came to a realization, however minor:
A character appears, defined by a scary costume and voice, and when she unmasks, you see that it’s someone familiar and warm underneath. And later on in the movie, another character defined by a scary costume and voice is unmasked, and you see that underneath, he’s not all that scary. So there’s symmetry and foreshadowing, especially when you consider the family connection between them that’s revealed midway through the movie.
I can’t be the first person to notice this. To those of you who have read all of the Star Wars analysis and minutiae out there, someone in the past 25 years has written something about this, right?
I never really read about that or thought about that – but that is really very cool!
