A Sad Night For Cybergosh
Thai Barbs. 1985-2007.
It was more than a restaurant. It was a way of life. The “S1 – Kai Yang” (Thai BBQ Chicken) was ordered at least once each time I was in LA since July ’85. Tonight, the legend would be broken. By Indians. In April of this year.
Junktape, MDhuff, Lilfilm and I consumed the last Thai Ice Coffee and Thai Ice Teas in May 2006.
The best part about this – I don’t remember the food being all that good anyway.
No! That is because you didn’t listen to me and get the ‘S1’ !!!! The ONLY thing to order at Thai Barbs was the Kai Yang!!! Anyone who ventured off paid for it in the tummy!
post more photos..I think I got some from 2005…will dig ‘em up
If you find any, go into the extended text and add some of those pics!
I’ll add more from over the years when i return to nyc next month…
btw, is it just me or does Dan almost look Mexican?
Token Dan?
i’m a little devasted too…the iced coffee was too sweet for me and the chicken noodle dish tasted like a crusty grill, but i’ll miss the amusing fish. That place will always be associated with LA for me, esp. the fox days, and i feel nostalgic and sad that its gone.
ps. kiev closed down last year.
I knew you would feel my pain. You and MDhuff were the only ones who enjoyed the savory flavor of that special Kai Yang sauce!
NoooooOOOOOoooooOOOOooooo!!!!!!

SIDENOTE:
Chris and I ate there. He hated the Indian food. I was happy that finally I could order food I liked in this building. But honestly, the new menu isn’t that good. The Tika Masala tasted like ass and the Naan had mozzarella in it. Weird. Decent samosas, but it’s hard to screw up anything that’s deep fried.
The place looks clean and immaculate, and for the first time features a grade A in the window. But yeah, I miss the sickly fish in the sparse, undecorated fish tanks. I miss the stomach ache and violent diarreah that only the S1 could provide.
But mostly I miss the bergy smile with the cheeky freakies all cherry red like a cambell’s soup kid.
Let us never forget this blessed shithole and the years of pain and pleasure it provided us.
