Babel – made for Snaker?

Not the poster for the “Babel” I just saw but I had to post this… somebody should seek this one out. Anyway, finally saw it and yes…one would think it is my type of film…. but I prefer films in which I can understand motivations, believe a character’s choices even if they are unwise, and not feel as if I’m being treated like a house-wife doing laundry.

Alejandro González Iñárritu is a great director. Unfortunately, Guillermo Arriaga is a terrible writer. “Amores Perros” is amazing but I think he got lucky with that one. “Babel” and “21 Grams” are really nothing but disguised soap operas.

I don’t want to tear “Babel” apart that badly. Because it has beautiful moments, great acting, and …well, that’s it. I can’t compliment the pacing because it is too long. No reason to draw out that wedding scene for example. Can’t compliment the drama because it’s artificial.

This script is so superficial… I can picture Arriaga, smoking a cigarette, typing away with a smug grin on his face because he knows that this material win him awards. Good for him. And everyone is too stupid to realize that there is no depth here. I’m glad I waited for junktape to send me a screener.
