John Hughes is back…sort of….

Share

(From IGN FIlmforce) –Paramount Pictures has enlisted Owen Wilson to star in Drillbit Taylor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy is being produced by Judd Apatow (The 40 Year-Old Virgin), Susan Arnold and Donna Roth. Steven Brill (Without a Paddle) is being lined up to direct based on a 70-page scriptment that 1980s filmmaking icon John Hughes wrote a few years back. The latest screenplay was penned by Virgin cast member Seth Rogen and Chris Brown.

The pic reportedly “revolves around two high school freshmen who are targeted by the school bully on the first day of the school year. The boys hire what they think is a low-budget soldier of fortune (Owen Wilson) to protect them, but he turns out to be anything but.”

Filming is slated to start this September in L.A. for a summer ’07 release.

Like the premise, and the teaming of Judd with Hughes seems like good chemistry.  That director fucking sucks, but then again I think you can blame most of “Without a Paddle” on the fact that they were without a script, so who knows.  Been awhile since we’ve seen a movie like that, so I’m game.
